Concordia SloopJack helped Gary get a piece of hardware off the transom of the Concordia Sloop. While he was under there, he spent some time investigating the inside of the boat. Gary has been working on repairing and sanding the centerboard and now it's ready for a fresh coat of paint. Lyman IslanderJack installed the new exhaust hose and cut, polished, and permanently mounted a new stainless steel exhaust tip. He cleaned up and painted the steering pulleys and mounted them on new blocks inside the transom. Everything looks so nice and clean! 1959 Chris Craft ContinentalGary is installing a new cutlass bearing inside the propeller strut.

Gary has been repairing the centerboard for the Concordia Sloop. Jack helped unload a brand new Yamaha outboard engine for the Flats boat. Gary and Shane have been working on fiberglassing the floorboards for the Flats boat. This week on the '57 Continental, Jack installed the engine after making modifcations to the motor mounts and reinstalled the strut, prop shaft and propeller, and rudder. He got everything hooked up to the engine including wiring and hoses and finally installed the new dashboard and gauges, switches, and steering box. He also installed the thru-hulls for the drain plug, tank vent, and both bilge pumps. He removed the old, rotten battery box and replaced it with new wooden framing. Next, we'll install the fuel tank and start putting the interior together! Shane has milled the wood for and made the final two frame replacements and is continuing to work on replacing rotten framing on the transom on the SuperSport.
As we begin a new year, the crew at Lowell Boats is here for all your wooden boat restoration needs!

The office is closed this week while we enjoy time with our families!
The big excitement this week has been sandblasting a trailer for a 1959 Continental and repainting it. Erin and Shane helped flip it back over! Finding rot in the bottom of your boat is never a good thing, but we can fix it! The green boat will need a new bottom layer and the other boat will get new frames sistered in or replaced entirely. Shane is working hard to remove all the paint from the bottom of this boat. It's looking great!
Welcome to Erin, our new office manager! She's joining us part time in the office, doing bookkeeping, invoices, and lots of other tasks to keep us organized. She's lived in Greensboro most of her life and has two kiddos and a pet rat. She loves theatre and music and reads in her spare time. He's replacing the stern posts in the transom. He's installed a new chine as well. Jack's woodworking looks great! The joints weren't this tight when they left the factory. We're pressing some original battleship linoleum for installation on a 1946 Garwood. We use whatever heavy things we have around the shop! Shane is hand sanding the bulkheads for the Flats boat in preparation for varnish. Gary is reefing out the old cotton between the seams in this Concordia Sloop in preparation for recaulking. A batch of antique electric boats went back to the lake last week, making room for new projects. First a 1965 21 ft Chris Craft Super Sport with a Lincoln 431. ...followed by a 1947 Chris Craft Deluxe Runabout with a KBL engine. ... ...and a 1958 15ft Dixie outboard runabout.
It's been an interesting few months. Lots of boats coming and going. Sorry we haven't had time to keep the blog updated. I will try to get back to regular updates Here are three antique electric boats from 1934 and 1935, back in their boathouse for the season
We are all slowly getting back to the shop after the holiday break. Visiting family has all given us the latest virus going around but we should be back to full strength soon....
Well...since there is no snow, what better thing to do but work on wooden boats A new batch of small electric boats have arrived for the winter. Built in 1934-35 and they are still going.
