It is looking so great! 1942 RunaboutThis gorgeous boat is on its way to a boat show, but last week it was in the shop getting some final touch ups. Check out those crisp clean white lines! Super SportEveryone worked together again last week to install the other half of the bottom on this Super Sport. Custom Electric BoatThis motor was all fouled up with fishing line, but that didn't end up being the problem.

Lyman IslanderJack has been working hard on these interior details. The seat backs and engine box are almost done! Super SportIt took a full day of team work to install the bottom on this boat! It's a messy job that requires a lot of hands and screws!
Wooden Boat School boat launchCheck out the boat launch from the end of Gary's class in Maine! 1942 RunaboutJack did a repair on this boat to get it ready for a show this fall. The precision is just amazing! Concordia SloopShane has been working on some final interior repairs and is almost ready to permanently install the seats. Lyman IslanderJack has put a lot of effort into designing, milling, and finishing these seat backs this week. They are getting stained today! SuperSportShane has been preparing these bottom pieces, including scarfing on extra wood where ends were damaged. SportsmanCaity has completed a major sand and many coats of varnish on the ceiling boards for this boat. She's almost ready for the final coat.
Wooden Boat School, MaineGary has been up in Maine all month, teaching at the Wooden Boat School. The restoration classes there have spent the last 5 years restoring this 1953 17 ft Chris Craft Sportsman. SportsmanCaity's been working on a Sportsman here in the shop too. She's building up coats of varnish on the new ceiling boards. She and Jack have continued to work on fitting, repairing, and installing the deck planking. Concordia SloopShane has been working on the new seat pieces. They're getting painted this week. Super SportShane and Jack steam bent new bottom planks to place the rotten ones. Flats BoatShane has been working on these inset hatches. They are painted white to match the deck. It's all going to look so clean and fresh when it's done! Lyman IslanderJack has stained and sealed this engine box. It's so sturdy and absolutely gorgeous.
SportsmanCaity has been working on finishing and sealing the ceiling boards for the Sportsman. You can also see a newly-made dash panel and some other interior pieces. Super SportShane has tacked on the old plywood bottom to see which pieces can be reused and which need to be replaced. Concordia SloopShane has been working on the interior! He's building out the bench seating along the sides. Everything looks so nice and fresh! Lyman IslanderJack has assembled the engine box!
Lyman IslanderJack and Caity have been working on installing the interior and gluing up the engine box. Continental Sea Trial!After getting the transmission back and reinstalling it, Gary, Jack, and Caity took this boat out for a successful sea trial. It only needs a little more work now! FlatsShane and Gary have been working on the nonskid deck coating and the plumbing for the deck hatches. SportsmanJack has been working on installing the ceiling boards on this boat.
Super SportShane has gotten half the plywood bottom installed this week! 1935 ElectriCraftThis pretty little electric boat came down from Roaring Gap with some damage along the side. Gary got it all taken care of and Jack is taking the boat back up to Roaring Gap over the weekend. Correct Craft MustangJack installed a new blower (not pictured) and a bunch of new switches and buttons on the dash. Concordia SloopThis side of the boat has a first coat of paint and is getting sanded in preparation for a second coat today. The other side will get the first coat at the same time. Jack has also been working on some varnish for the interior pieces in our low dust varnish room! 1947 Deluxe RunaboutJack and Gary picked this engine up from Georgia last Friday! Things are coming together! U-18Jack worked hard this week to get the valves on this engine working.
Lyman IslanderOur sign guy, Mike Gregson of Gregson Signs, came by to do the lettering on The Lazy B this week. Caity has been working on sanding the sides in preparation for painting. Concordia SloopShane has been working on the seats and floorboards this week. He's run everything through the planer to take off a layer of dirt and paint, sanded edges, bunged and epoxied screw holes, and he's just about ready to prime all these pieces! SuperSportShane fit and installed the aft sub-bottom plywood structural pieces and the new inner planking layer on the transom. SportsmanJack and Caity milled new book-matched wood for the forward covering boards on the deck. Jack started fitting all the deck covering boards. Shane painted the floorboards in preparation for covering them with flooring material. 1947 Chris Craft Deluxe RunaboutCaity has been steadily working on these bungs! There are so many! PuntGary finished up the details on the punt and Jack delivered it to Roaring Gap this week.
We've been all over the place this week! Jack took a day trip up to Roaring Gap to deliver a boat, work on some boats at their moorings, and bring another boat back to the shop. Gary went up to Kerr Lake to do a marine survey. New Boat (a Roaring Gap boat)Jack picked New Boat up last week and brought her back to the shop, fixed the steering, and took her back to her boat house this week! Eeyore (a Roaring Gap boat)Jack brought Eeyore back with him from Roaring Gap and we're getting the prop to motor coupler machined. Lyman IslanderCaity has been working on sanding the exterior of the Islander this week and Jack put more of the interior back together. Concordia SloopShane has been working meticulously on the details of this boat. PuntWe've got some of the interior pieces out for fresh varnish. 1947 Deluxe RunaboutWe've got two coats of primer on the bottom of this boat. It's almost ready to right! SportsmanWe laid out all the deck and floorboard pieces of this boat this week to see what could be used and what is missing or needs to be replaced. Shane is working on the floorboards. SuperSportShane installed the battens on the transom this week. The word batten refers to a strip of wood used to strengthen something or hold it in place. These look like they'll do a great job! U-18Jack's got the pressure washer and the ShopVac out today doing a final bilge clean out. ContinentalJack adjusted the existing bunks on the trailer to provide a better fit and added some new ones as well. 1958 ContinentalWe don't have any pictures this week, but Gary dropped off the upholstered interior pieces at the upholsterer in Raleigh. That's an exciting step! RivieraThis boat passed its sea trial and is ready to go home. Check out that gorgeous trailer!
